Developing apps for medical devices: where to start?

Hello everyone! I want to try making my first app for medical devices. I read that such projects are difficult due to security requirements and certifications. I don’t have much experience in developing specifically for medicine, so I have a lot of questions. Where is the best place to start? What technologies should I study first? Do I need to think about compatibility with different platforms right away? And I wonder if it’s necessary to test everything according to medical standards right away or is it done at later stage?

A really cool idea, but really complicated. I advise you to immediately contact those who already know all the requirements. For example, there is a great company, here is the link: https://orangesoft.co/services/medical-device-software-development . They have been making software for medical devices for over 14 years. Everything there is standardized — HIPAA, GDPR, FDA, and so on. They not only develop apps, but also help with integration, support, and consultations. This is important because medical software should be not only convenient, but also safe. It is difficult to take everything into account at the start on your own.

In my opinion, it is important to first understand the specifics of the requirements for medical products. Even if you know programming well, everything is more difficult here because of the responsibility to patients. The main thing is not to rush and carefully think through the architecture of the application. And, of course, read as many practical cases as possible. Good luck with the project!

Hey! Start by studying HIPAA, ISO 13485, and cybersecurity basics; platform compatibility matters, but certification testing usually comes later once you have a working prototype
