How to put up privacy on my Gmail account?

I am new to g mail. Haven't use it before. I think Hotmail is much more reliable. But since now my best friend is using g mail i have to use it too. Anyone tell us the privacy settings?

go to setting and click on privacy policy tab on it
and set as u want
