Understanding Tennis Court Measurements – Need Clarification!

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to get a better understanding of official tennis court measurements and their variations. I know the standard dimensions for singles and doubles play, but I’m a bit confused about things like service box sizes, net height, and how much space is recommended around the court for comfortable play.

Are there any differences between recreational, club, and professional courts?

Also, do surface types affect the court dimensions in any way?

Would love to hear insights from those with experience in court construction or regulation play.

Thanks in advance!

A standard tennis court is 78 feet (23.77 m) long and 27 feet (8.23 m) wide for singles or 36 feet (10.97 m) wide for doubles. Each service box is 21 feet (6.4 m) deep and 13.5 feet (4.11 m) wide. When considering tennis court measurements, the net height is 3 feet (0.914 m) at the center and 3 feet 6 inches (1.07 m) at the posts. Recommended space around the court is at least 21 feet behind the baseline and 12 feet on the sides. Court dimensions remain the same across surfaces, but surface type affects play characteristics.
