What's the best approach to keyword research these days?

Hi all! I'm trying to get more targeted visitors to my blog and I’ve heard a lot about keyword intent and long-tail phrases. But honestly, I'm still confused about where to start. Should I just use Google's suggestions or is there a better way to find high-performing keywords that aren’t too competitive? Also curious if keyword tools like Ahrefs or Ubersuggest are still worth it.
