Why is the Aliyah process so frustrating?

I knew Aliyah wasn’t going to be instant, but I didn’t expect to feel like I’m stuck in an endless loop of paperwork. I submitted everything months ago, but now they’re saying one of my documents isn’t “sufficient proof” of Jewish ancestry. What does that even mean? It’s the same document my cousin used last year! And trying to get a straight answer from the Jewish Agency? Forget it. Has anyone else had to fight to prove something that should be obvious?

Yeah, that’s unfortunately pretty common. The proof they accept seems to change depending on who reviews your case. If your cousin had no issues, maybe try requesting the same officer? Otherwise, a letter from a rabbi or synagogue might help. Also, be ready to send follow-ups—some things get “lost in the system.” It’s annoying, but once you clear this hurdle, things start moving faster. Check out the full aliyah process to make sure you’re prepared for the next steps.

I get why Aliyah has so much red tape—it’s a huge move, and they need to verify everything. But sometimes it feels like they make it harder than it needs to be. The biggest challenge isn’t even the paperwork—it’s dealing with the uncertainty. One day, everything looks fine; the next, they need “one more document.” It tests your patience, for sure. But if you go in expecting delays and keep pushing forward, you’ll get there. And when you finally arrive in Israel, it all feels worth it.
