Simply saying, if you advertise your shop as flower shop but you are selling fishes, those who come to buy flowers did not stopped at your shop and ran away. Then you will have bounce rate. People are bouncing back from your shop. :)

Bounce rate for a website will increase when you do search engine optimization / promote your website with correct keywords and with correct articles relevant to your website.

So now you must know how to keep bounce rate. You need more information?

Bounce rate affect the ranking of your website. It must be kept low and in order to keep it low you must create quality content, add new images on your site and decrease the loading time of your website.

A high bounce rate can be down various things,

1 Your attracting the wrong type of traffic
2. Your targeting the wrong keywords
3. Poor / thin content
4. Your site isn't user friendly
5. your site is slow or has on page issues, (just to name a few).

If there are no on page SEO issues, as mentioned above and your content is good and of high quality,

I'd advise you take a step back and look at the keywords your targeting,
doing a fill review of the type of your keywords and changing them for more valuable or niche relevant keywords will attract more targeted traffic looking for the products or service the website is offering,
decreasing bounce rate (providing all other on page aspects have been assessed and actioned)
