CS 1.6 Crashes When Joining Online Servers

Hi everyone. I recently decided to return to CS 1.6 after a long break, but I keep running into a strange problem. The game launches normally, menus work fine, and I can even browse servers. However, as soon as I connect to many online servers, Counter Strike 1.6 freezes or closes without any error message. I already tried changing video settings, updating drivers, and reinstalling the game, but nothing helped. Could the issue be related to an outdated build or missing files? I was thinking that maybe downloading a fresh CS 1.6 original from upcs16 could solve it, but I'd like to hear some opinions first. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Yes, I had almost the same issue a few months ago. In my case, the problem was caused by an old CS 1.6 installation that had accumulated modified files from different servers over the years. Reinstalling from the same source didn't help because the files were already outdated. What finally worked was removing the entire game folder, clearing leftover configuration files, and installing a clean Counter Strike 1.6 client from a reliable source. After that, server connections became stable and crashes disappeared. A fresh installation often replaces damaged resources and restores default settings. If your current setup has been used for a long time, trying a new clean CS 1.6 installation is definitely worth testing.
