How Are You All Surviving Summer Load Shedding This Year?

Hello everyone,

Summer is here again and the load shedding is back to testing everyone's patience. I wanted to start a casual thread about how people are keeping their homes and work running during the long power cuts, because there are usually some clever ideas in this community.

For me the biggest change was finally taking my backup setup seriously instead of buying the cheapest battery every year and regretting it. I switched to a proper deep cycle UPS battery and the difference in backup time has been huge. No more sudden blackouts in the middle of work, and no more topping up water every couple of weeks since the new unit is maintenance free.

If anyone wants to compare options, I got mine from https://daewoobattery.com which carries car, UPS, and solar batteries with clear warranty terms and doorstep delivery. Their resources blog also has simple guides on picking the right size based on how many hours of backup you actually need, which made the decision a lot easier for me.

A few small habits that have helped me too:
  1. Charging the battery fully before peak cut hours.
  2. Running only essential loads like fans, lights, and the router during long outages.
  3. Keeping the terminals clean so the power flows smoothly.

So tell me, what is your current backup setup? Are you on a UPS, an inverter, a generator, or solar now? And has anyone made the jump to solar this year and found it worth the cost?

Looking forward to hearing what is working for everyone.
