yes you can dear,here is the procedure:
The solution is really simple using lists, I don’t know if it is a Twitter bug or an “hidden” functionality:
Follow the twitter account.
Add to a new list. (e.g. named Hidden)
Mark list as private.
Unfollow the twitter account
That’s it! You will receive notification in Twiitter timeline, but no one knows that you’re following that account.

You can edit your privacy settings. Choose protect tweets. No one can follow you unless you approve them and only then they can see your profile whom you follow.
