What if I don't update my WordPress version?

does anything bad happen, if I just skip the updating of WordPress? Is it absolutely necessary to work with the latest WordPress version? Thanks!

Before update, you should read what's new in new version.
A New version is usually fix bug, or security. So, update to new version is always better for yours.

Be carefully, backup database before do updating.
