What is a blog?

A blog is much more than all of you have said here,

A blog is your websites best asset.
Its a vital component that is one of the most valuable marketing tools you will ever have.

A blog is an extension to your website,
a platform or podium so to speak,
on which you use to inform your users, potential customers and clients about the services and products you provide and level of expertise and knowledge you have.

When time and effort is put into creating quality, unique content and helpful information that your customers or users would appreciate, this achieves a few things;

1. Shows you as a knowledgeable expert in your niche
2. Turns users into potential customers, based on the quality, time and effort you put into your blog
3. Builds authority within your niche - separating you from competitors
4. Drives traffic to your website, when used along with other outlets such as Social Media
5. Is the basis for a quality and tactical back linking strategy

The benefits of a blog are huge for your business, website and conversions.
I'm shocked at such sparse responses.

A blog is a website consisting of entries appearing in reverse chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first. Blogs typically include features such as comments and links to increase user interactivity. Blogs are created using specific publishing software.

A blog (a truncation of the expression weblog) is a discussion or informational website published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete, often informal diary-style text entries ("posts"). Posts are typically displayed in reverse chronological order, so that the most recent post appears first, at the top of the web page. Until 2009, blogs were usually the work of a single individual[citation needed], occasionally of a small group, and often covered a single subject or topic. In the 2010s, "multi-author blogs" (MABs) have developed, with posts written by large numbers of authors and sometimes professionally edited. MABs from newspapers, other media outlets, universities, think tanks, advocacy groups, and similar institutions account for an increasing quantity of blog traffic. The rise of Twitter and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate MABs and single-author blogs into the news media. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

A blog is a Web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author. Blogs are a very popular platform for guest posting. This is a great way to build an online reputation for a company to get its name out there.
