Most of my fellow Quorans have answered that it’s term used to define to change in ranks of the website between MAJOR updates. However, I differ , Flux refers to the redistribution of websites rankings in search engine that occurs before search engines update their databases.

So, essentially it’s unrelated to MAJOR updates but refers to regular updates of ranking by search engines.
 
Flux terms applies when Google done updation on his old algorithms or launches any new algorithms, some times also apply when Google refresh his database.
